WINTER IS STARTING IN MICHIGAN

I forgot to show you what we woke up to in Traverse City this morning!!!!

WINTER IS COMING!!!!

A VERY BUSY AUTUMN

This is Marilyn.......
It has really been a busy time this autumn. I found out how much I like soccer---watching Blake play-- and I have always liked football---and I had to be there the day Ben played and got hurt---darn---, but he is fine. Joe and Jordan have just finished the motorcycle season and did very well in their age groups. Bree will be horseback riding all winter. We went to a band concert that Ben played in---the sax! WOW! Bicycle racing finished this past weekend with the BIG Iceman race. Also, the first two weeks of October-- I spent in Florida with my sister, Gloria, and my friend, Judy. We had beautiful weather and lots of fun----sitting in the sun, reading and playing many games of dominoes. It just keeps going----next week I will take a few days and go to my place in Freesoil. Then, next Friday Kim and I will go to Muskegon for my Mom's 92nd birthday .............and then it will be Thanksgiving and it is my turn to have the big meal--we are having it at Kim and Darren's house, as my house is not big enough for the whole "RAJEWSKI CLAN"!!!!! Then Christmas will be here shortly. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

MADI'S BIRTHDAY

We celebrated Madi's 12th birthday at her house in Auburn. The whole family--the Mapes' and also the family of Amy. We had GOOD food and lots of fun.

HALLOWEEN AT THE DITTENBERS

Halloween has always been one of Kim's special holidays to celebrate!! She decorates her house inside and out for the "SPOOKY" night!! Our whole family has gathered at her house on this night for many years. She makes a BIG pot of chili and homemade bread and some REALLY WIERD CONCOCTIONS. We missed being at Kim's 6 years ago---we were altogether, but it was at my house--this is the night our Larry died.

THEY ARE OFF!!!

The "Iceman Cometh Challenge Bicycle Race" is the largest 1-day mountain bike race in the U.S.

It is a 27 mile point-to point race---from Kalaska to Traverse City, Michigan through the pine forests of northern Michigan. Iceman has become the biggest single-day mountain-bike race in the world--this year being the 19th annual. Conditions can be anything from dry and hot to ice slicked, muddy and blizzard white.

My friend, Judy, and I drove from Auburn on Saturday morning-11/8/2008-in mostly rainy weather to Kalkaska to see the start of the race--it was 44-degrees when we left home and 39 when we got there. It was light rain and cold when Paul started the race. His starting time was 10:15 a.m. We found the spectator sight at the half-way mark for Paul and got to watch him climb a long hill--still rainy. We then met him at the finish line in Traverse City----he had hoped to finish in the "top 10" in his age group, but did even better than that---he finished in 5th place.

My granddaughter, Lexxie, also raced in the 14th annual "Meijer Slush Cup"--it is a "half-frozen" version of the Iceman. She raced on an 8 mile course with the same rainy weather. She started at 9:00 a.m. in Traverse City, so I did not see her until her race was over. She took

3rd place in her age group. What a great day for the Mapes family!!! We all stayed overnight in Traverse City so we could attend the awards presentation.
